Terms of use
These terms apply when you use or buy Caliper, made by Blackism (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa with registration number 2014/236914/07 ("we", "us"). By using Caliper you agree to them.
Your licence
- A licence is a one-time purchase. It lets you use Caliper on the number of computers ("seats") your plan includes: Solo 1, Craftsman Pro 2, Boutique Studio 8, Agency 25.
- Your licence keeps working for as long as Caliper exists. There is no subscription and nothing to renew.
- You can move a seat to another computer at any time from the Manage Seats page.
- Keys are for you, or for the people in your business on a team plan. Sharing a key outside your business, or reselling it, isn't allowed, and we may switch off keys that are misused.
- You can upgrade to a bigger plan at any time and pay only the difference.
Updates and new features
We improve Caliper over time, and improvements to the features in your plan are included. From time to time we may also create significant new features or products; we may offer those as separate, optional paid upgrades. Nothing you've already paid for will be taken away.
Your work
Everything you make with Caliper — slides, timelapses, posters — belongs to you, and you may use it commercially, including for clients. You're responsible for having the right to use the logos and artwork you open in Caliper. Your files are processed on your own computer and are never uploaded to us.
Our intellectual property
Caliper — the software and its code, its design and interface, the way it lays out construction drawings, slides and posters, the Caliper name and compass mark, this website, its text, guides, illustrations and images — is owned by Blackism (Pty) Ltd and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. © 2026 Blackism (Pty) Ltd. Your licence lets you use Caliper; it doesn't transfer any of that ownership. You may not copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer Caliper, remove its licence checks, build a competing product from it, or reproduce our website content, except where the law expressly allows it. "Caliper" and the Caliper compass mark are trademarks of Blackism (Pty) Ltd.
Payments and refunds
Payments are processed by PayFast and charged in South African rand. All sales are final and we don't offer refunds, except where the law requires us to — for example if Caliper doesn't work as described. You can try Caliper for free before you buy.
Liability
We work hard to make Caliper accurate and reliable, but it is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from its use, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law, including South Africa's Consumer Protection Act.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time; the date at the top shows the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
